Funny story time: the time my husband accidentally decaffeinated me unintentionally with not the best consequences.
The week was going really well. It was the week of my birthday. I had had a lovely birthday. I was feeling a ok. Then on the evening of my birthday I started feeling a mix of anxiety and lethargy and I, frankly, was a horrible person to be around the last 48 hours. Anger out bursts, irrational annoyance at things that don’t usually annoy me, feel anxious and like something was wrong but not sure what.

I couldn’t figure out why. It was pretty awful.
Turns out the husband had accidentally been using decaffeinated coffee pods and I was coming off caffeine but not realising it.
You see, I use caffeine as my stimulant because I’m not on adhd medication, and it helps me focus and manage ok. Some people prefer not to use prescribed ADHD medication and use caffeine as an alternative.
I don’t drink a lot, it’s finely tuned so it works for me.
So when he realised that was why I had basically turned into an anxious, not wanting to do anything, behaving like a raging psycho mess we at least were able to laugh about it and now we know not to mess with the caffeine and make sure the decaf pods don’t get mixed up.
Poor man, he was very apologetic. I had to grovel to my children for being such a mess. At one point I thought there was something seriously wrong with me.
I genuinely thought during that 72 hours, that I was having some sort of mental breakdown and I did really turn into a raging mess. As soon as we realised (he phoned me sheepishly to say he had realised that the coffee pods were decaffeinated) I made myself a REAL coffee and a work colleague bought me a large cola from the local fast food place and within a couple of hours I was feeling completely normal.
So lesson learned. Do not stop caffeine cold turkey, and if you do want to (I don’t and didn’t) do it sensibly. Not like me…
